We’ll also use this blog to discuss various aspects of the glasses business – both online and the ‘bricks and mortar’ approach.
As an outline – GlassesUK.com was set up in 2003 to complement our flourishing Contact Lenses online business (The Contact Lens Shop. No-one in the UK was selling glasses online at that time. Some companies were selling frames, some were offering a warehouse type glasses production service if you visited their premises with a copy of your prescription.
It was technically quite difficult to put together all the requirements for buying glasses online but after a few weeks we had got the elements right. So much so that various other companies began to copy us – and more online glasses sites started to appear. After a few months there were lots including one which generated a lot of publicity because the owner had started it straight from university (whereas we have a few more years under our belts!).
Now we offer single vision glasses, bifocal glasses, rimless glasses, VARIFOCAL glasses, safety glasses, tinted glasses etc.
